Our History
The Birth
Another milestone in the annals of Sir Louis Onwugbenu, is the establishment of the louis carter foundation in 2013.Precisely, on 15th August 2013,Sir Louis got an inspiration to float a foundation which will wipe tears away from unprivileged faces as he marked his 60th birthday anniversary.
………FROM THE DESK OF CHAIRLADY BOARD OF TRUSTEES LADY J.N NWANGWU (JP)
In the catholic calender,August 15 is the solemnity of the Assumption of the blessed virgin mary, and for the inspiration to come on this very day is symptomatic of divine direction and material guidance of the blessed virgin mary, mother of God.Like a mustard seed, the foundation has grown against the wildest imagination of cynics and friends alike.Under it’s umbrella are over 200 beneficiares who are academically assisted in two categories-secondary education and at the university level.
Introduction:
The origin or the genesis of Louis Carter Foundation dates back to August 2013. There were feelers everywhere pervading the minds of many in and around St. Louis Catholic Church axis, thus signalling that something beneficial but yet unknown is in the offing. Conjectures by many were rife. The scenario was indicative of the unknown to an eventual birth of a known phenomenon. The ecstasy about this, and the fear of the unknown saw many with clipped hands waiting for either a glorious day or a dooms-day. Days passed by, and at last it was obvious that the known history was around the corner. It was then that people were able to postulate and mind-boggle on who will make this history and from where.
At the nick of time, the dream (as dubbed then) started to manifest itself precisely on 15th August 2013 This day, in annals of St
Louis, was synonymous with dignity and success That day, not only played host to the colourful 60th birthday anniversary of the quintessential business mogul- Chief, Sir Louis Izuchukwu Onwugbenu-Okpata Ozuora Nnewi, but also witnessed the establishment of a Foundation (the first of its kind in Nnewi) code-named: LOUIS CARTER FOUNDATION.
Foundations all over the world are designed to take care of the less privileged. In the light of this, a BOARD comprising: Lady J.N. Nwangwu, Sir I.G. Nduka, Mrs. Monic Chukwuemeka, Mrs. Patience Domrufus Enemchukwu and My humble self. Mr. E.J Ifediata, were appointed and inaugurated same day with a mandate to pilot the affairs of the Foundation. As a follow up, the benefactor further mandated the board to keep the dream a glow with the hope that soonest the tears and the orgy of penury on the faces of many indigent people milling around, would be wiped .At birth, the sphere of influence of the Foundation was Uruagu Nnewi; its logical origin .But sooner than later, this was no longer tenable as the scheme sprawled to other parts of Nnewi and beyond. This was substantiated by the fact that by this time, a colossal amount of was deployed to offset a back-log of bills hanging on the necks of many indigent patients already discharged at Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital Nnewi.
Session | SS 1 | 100 Level | Total |
2013/2014 | 22 | 20 | 42 |
2014/2015 | 10 | 15 | 25 |
2015/2016 | 08 | 10 | 18 |
Total | 40 | 45 | 85 |
The analysis from the table above shows that in 2013/2014 session, a total of 42 students comprising 22 beneficiaries in ss1 and 20 in 100 level were offered scholarship to study in various secondary schools and universities across Nigeria. In 2014/2015, a total of 25 students were selected. This was made up of 10 SS1 students and 15 100 level undergraduates. Subsequently in 2015/2016 edition, the number admited however dropped owing to a high capital demand arising from a quantum leap in beneficiary intake. Sequel to this, only 8 SS1 and 10 100 level students were admited, thus bringing the total number of beneficiaries in 2015/2016 edition to 18. The table attests to this such that the first three years of the scheme recorded a total figure of 40 SS1 and 45 100 level undergraduates with a cumulative figure of 85 beneficiaries already deriving succour from the scheme. By inference, the capital already employed into the scheme or foundation was grossly enormous.
This however did not in any way deter the zeal of the benefactor as he did not consiaer whittling down the scheme. Rather, he was more determined to prod on, hence a quintuplet was brought into the picture at his expense for up to university level. The usual scholarship scheme, continued unwhittled such that in 2016/2017 session, a total of 22 students comprising 12 SS1 and 10 100 level undergraduates were admited.
In 2017/2018 academic year,8 ss1 and 10 100 level making a total of 18 students joined the league of beneficiaries in the scheme single -handedly funded by no other person than chief Louis Izuchukwu Onwugbenu through his foundation (see fig 11 below). In 2018/2019 the picture made a paradigm shift upwards as 9 ss1 and 12 100level undergraduates were added. Finally, in this current year the scheme made a giant stride upwards such that the new position is 17 ss1 students and 15 100level undergraduates copiously represented in (table 11 )below. The table
Session | SS 1 | 100 Level | Aggregate Total |
2013/2014 | 22 | 20 | 42 |
2014/2015 | 10 | 15 | 26 |
2015/2016 | 08 | 19 | 18 |
2016/2017 | 12 | 10 | 22 |
2017/2018 | 08 | 10 | 18 |
2018/2019 | 09 | 12 | 21 |
2019/2020 | 17 | 15 | 32 |
Cumulative Total | 86 | 92 | 178 |
Summarily showed that the foundation has to date, a cumulative figure of 86 SS1 and 92 undergraduates with aggregate total of (178) one hundred and seventy eight beneficiaries. Though a cursory aggregate figure of about (107) one hundred and seven beneficiaries from both categories (2018/2019 not inclusive) have passed out or graduated. It is pertinent to note for emphasis .that table 1 is an adjunct of table 11. This number does not include innumerable Rev. Fathers, Seminarians, Aspirants and Religious men and women who have benefitted and are still benefitting from his magnanimity.
CONCLUSION:
The narrative above exemplified Chief/Sir Louis Izuchukwu Onwugbenu as a pace-setter having achieved a feat very few dreamt of. Suffice it to say that his foundation is unparalleled, at least in this part of the state. As noted earlier, foundations are capital intensive, yet for many years he was able to nurture to maturity ventures very difficult for others to attempt. It is clear and axiomatic that the lucky beneficiaries of this foundation, throughout their life on earth will not forget him for his benevolence.
Therefore, Chief Louis Izuchukwu Onwuegbenu has carved a niche for himself as this bailout will ultimately write his name in GOLD in the high heavens above.
