From Humble Beginnings to Lasting Impact

Birth and Early Childhood
Chief Louis Izuchukwu Onwugbenu was born into the family of the late Mr. Augustine Onwugbenu and Mrs. Cecilia Onwugbenu of Ndi-Ojukwu village, Uruagu Nnewi.
His birth coincided with the Catholic celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a date that would remain deeply significant throughout his life.
The Name Louis
Three weeks after his birth, he was baptized by the missionary priest Rev. Fr. Louis Kettle, who gave him the name Louis.
His early exposure to Christianity and the influence of missionary priests became an important foundation for his faith and philosophy of life.
Education and Formation
He attended Philip's Nursery and Primary School, Okpunoeze, Uruagu and subsequently continued his primary education at John of the Cross Primary School, Egbo Uruagu Nnewi.
His secondary education was interrupted by the Nigerian Civil War and the difficult economic circumstances that followed.
Beginning the Business Journey
Following the Civil War, Louis decided to enter the business world and allow his younger siblings to pursue their education.
Between 1970 and 1973, he apprenticed under his uncle Raphael Ezimora and learned the fundamentals of the automobile spare-parts trade.
Launching His Own Enterprise
In 1973, he began his independent business journey, initially trading in smaller automobile spare parts such as plugs, filters, bolts and nuts.
Through hard work, honesty and determination, the business gradually expanded into larger and more capital-intensive areas of trade.
Enterprise and Expansion
His entrepreneurial activities expanded beyond automobile spare parts into manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, estate management and general merchandise.
A Family Built on Faith and Commitment
On 21 October 1978, Louis Onwugbenu married Patricia Ojukwu. Their marriage has been blessed with children and grandchildren.

Building a Legacy That Lives On
One of the major expressions of Chief Sir Louis Onwugbenu's faith and philanthropy was the construction of St. Louis Catholic Church, Uruagu Nnewi.
The church was dedicated on 27 December 2003 by the then Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev. Hilary Odili Okeke.
Alongside the church, he supported the development of a Father's house, Chapel of Adoration, Nursery and Primary School and Secondary School.
These projects reflect his desire to create institutions that continue serving generations beyond his lifetime.
The Birth of the Louis Carter Foundation
Following the blessings and success he had experienced throughout his life, Chief Sir Louis Onwugbenu desired to reach more indigent families and children.
On his 60th birthday, 15 August 2013, he received the inspiration to establish the Louis Carter Foundation with a mission to wipe tears from the faces of the underprivileged.
Since its establishment, the Foundation has supported education, entrepreneurship, healthcare, skills acquisition and human-capital development.
